The Vibrant Voice Technique Intensive

A live 10-week online course with David Ley and Elissa Maas Weinzimmer from February 5th to April 9th, 2025.

Vibrant Voice Technique operates on the simple premise that external vibration can enhance vocal resonance and reduce the muscle tension that leads to vocal fatigue.

Is Vibrant Voice Technique for you?

“singer” Are you a performer? A singer or an actor? Do you use your voice in an athletic way?

“speaker” Do you rely on your voice for your job? Are you a classroom teacher, a lawyer, a call center employee, a business person, or a public speaker?

“speaker” Do you have intense vocal demands, using your voice for long periods of time and/or needing to be loud?

Maybe you’re an amateur singer who wants to participate in your local choir. Yet you struggle with reduced voice quality or vocal fatigue.

If any of this sounds like you, you can benefit from releasing muscle tension and enhancing your vocal resonance with Vibrant Voice Technique.

How does Vibrant Voice Technique work?

What do the vocal folds do? They vibrate.

What is resonance? Sympathetic vibration.

The Vibrant Voice Technique combines the use of a vibrating device with anatomically-based movement and voice practices. The result? Quickly and effectively enhance vocal resonance, and reduce the muscle tension that can lead to vocal fatigue.

Research shows that vibration does a handful of useful things:

At specific frequencies, external vibration can either trigger the tonic vibration reflex, stimulating muscle engagement... or it can trigger the golgi tendon reflex, stimulating muscle release.

Exercise science studies show that local vibration enhances circulation to specific areas of the body. This helps fuel the muscle and remove lactic acid, aiding in recovery time.

Vibration creates new connections in the nervous system, by activating the mechanoreceptors of the muscles, as well as the mechanoreceoptors of the skin.

Multiple studies now provide evidence that external vibration applied to the larynx can help relieve vocal fatigue symptoms, and improve voice quality.
SECURE MY SPOT!

"This technique is brilliant! My jaw in particular has been doing so much better since I've used the vibrator. Nothing else has worked for me up to now. It’s a real relief! Thank you so much, I am so glad I signed up!"

— Sedera Halarla, Singer, Quebec City, QC

The Backstory

In 2011, Canadian voice and speech professor David Ley was working with an actor who was experiencing ongoing hoarseness and vocal fatigue. She’d visited her local laryngologist to be sure that there were no pathological issues such as nodes, polyps, or excessive swelling. The doctor didn’t see anything wrong.

This led David to believe that the actor’s problem was muscular tension.

So he guided her in laryngeal massage, but she didn’t feel comfortable touching the front of her throat. He needed to come up with an idea for how to address the tension in her neck…

He thought to himself: “We use vibrators to help release muscles in our legs… personal massagers on our backs… What about a small hand-held vibration device to release tension in the throat?”

And in this lightbulb moment, Vibrant Voice Technique was born.

"Recently I had three hours of singing, one hour alone as a soloist and two hours with others singers. Nobody knew I had just learned the Vibrant Voice Technique, but they remarked to me that my voice was more brilliant, full, and they heard something like bells!
I felt that it was easier to achieve pianissimo for many notes as well."

— Louise Gagnon, Family Doctor and Classical Singer, Montréal, QC

As a result, recovery time of the discomfort resulting from a working day has significantly diminished. Thank you VVT for making it possible to continue in the line of work that I love, for speeding up recovery and for reducing stress associated my voice use!”
